Creating your "WHY"

For  PARENTS

For PARENTS

Asking the youth to define their “WHY” is new this year.

As we have grown from a small group of Commonwealth homeschooling families  in the greater Denver area, to a Leadership Business that draws youth from coast to coast, we have felt impressed to adequately maintain the culture and vision that began our first adventure together!

The Leadership Retreats are exactly that, retreats where young adults can come, associate with other like minded youth, and experience, gain and share in life skills that they can take with them into their futures; leadership skills that will allow them to recognize how and where they can use their talents and strengths to contribute in their communities, churches and families.

What we are not…While making friends and developing healthy social skills are a few of the interests and take-aways that we offer, we are not a summer camp where kids come to lounge, get some sun and hang out with other teens all day. We do schedule adequate time for the kids to visit and relax, but it is important that your child understands the overall experience being given to them.

The retreats are held in August but preparation for them begins at the end of December in the same year. There are 1000’s of volunteer hours put into bringing the most impactful and memorable opportunity for our attendees. When kids come without understanding “WHY” they are there, it affects the other youths' experiences.

Please discuss these points with your youth and have them read the “CREATING YOUR WHY FOR YOUTH” section. They can also visit our Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/radventuresinleadership or continue to explore this website for understanding the difference from a Leadership Retreat vs a summer camp.

It may be helpful to know that even those applying to be counselors every year, attach to their application, “WHY” they want to be a counselor and WHAT they will bring if accepted. Thank you for helping us maintain the most optimal experience for all attending.

Creating your "WHY"

For  YOUTH

For  YOUTH

We are sure that there are several thoughts that have crossed your mind already… “I have never had to come up with a “WHY” before!” or “This is stupid, why do I have to do this?” or perhaps “I don’t even have a “WHY”.

We get it, but here’s the thing. We can go over all the rules with you, we can explain how we are going to run the retreat and what’s expected. We can even remind you of consequences in order to detour inappropriate behavior BUT and that’s a BIG BUT, when your “WHY” is clear, it drives your behavior naturally,  and will be a strong moral compass during your retreat adventure!

It doesn’t have to be a paragraph or anything fancy. Just sit alone, quietly for a minute or two and ask yourself, “Why do I want to attend the retreat this summer?” If you don’t like the first or second answer that comes to your mind, dig a bit deeper and discover what’s important to you and move from there.

Once you feel you are clear on why you want to attend, write it down and get excited to share your “WHY” with your group on ZOOM!
